Choosing the right platform for you is a big decision whether you’re relaunching an existing business or starting from scratch. Here’s a few tips to consider when you’re working through the process…

What’s your business objective?

Content or ecommerce you need to set out your intentions for the platform from the beginning to ensure you’re choosing the platform which is best suited to your overall business goals.

Self managed or dev agency?

You can have more flexibility with certain websites (Magento and WordPress) but may need to rely on designers and developers to create your theme and continue to support the ongoing workings of your site. This should be considered at the beginning of the process as development will incur additional costs along the way.

Look at the fees involved in transactions, some platforms have higher monthly fees but lower transactional fees, so based on the projections for your business, it’s best to calculate this over your first year of projected sales to understand what your costs will be.

Bespoke functionality

If you have ideas for bespoke functionality think about how you can implement this into your site. Each platform offers the opportunity to add plug ins or apps depending on your requirements it’s worth doing your research for these initially.
